Welcome to Helen Papworth Therapeutic Counselling
Welcome to my website, I hope you are able to find the answers to your questions here, if not please get in touch.
I understand that coming to counselling is a big step and can feel overwhelming so thank you for your interest in my practice. I recognise that it is important to find a counsellor who is right for you, and I hope that my website will help you to decide whether I could be that person.
I would like to tell you a little bit about myself. I work for a counselling charity which offers low-cost counselling to adults and young people and also work in my own counselling practice where I have a warm, comfortable, private space. I counsel both adults and young people. Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in schools, most recently working in pastoral roles in sixth forms. I loved this work and worked alongside some amazing young people and adults but began to feel that I could offer more and decided to train to become a counsellor. I have no regrets!
I love walking with my dog and my family and particularly love being by the sea. My favourite place is sitting on the rocks on the beach, listening to the waves with the sun and wind on my face! And these activities are even better if they are followed by food and drink in front of a log fire!
I am a person-centred counsellor, and I believe that every person has the capacity for growth and self-healing if they have the right environment. I will provide you with a safe, warm empathic space where you will be listened to, heard and fully accepted without judgement. The therapeutic relationship is at the heart of my work and is built on trust and respect. You are the expert on your own life, we will work at your pace, you will choose what you would like to bring to your sessions, the agenda is yours.
As the relationship deepens, we can explore what is happening, or has happened, in your life, your feelings, challenges, your aspirations. I work in a warm, gentle, supportive way and I hope that you will always feel safe. We can work towards greater self-awareness and emotional wellbeing, empowering you to feel more confident in facing life’s challenges and supporting you to create meaningful, positive change. I am here to help you navigate your journey toward healing and growth.

Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about how counselling works, or to arrange an initial assessment appointment. This enables us to discuss the reasons you are thinking of coming to counselling, whether it could be helpful for you and whether I am the right therapist to help.
You can also call me on +44 7833574505 if you would prefer to leave a message or speak to me first. I am happy to discuss any queries or questions you may have prior to arranging an initial appointment.
All enquires are usually answered within 24 hours, and all contact is strictly confidential and uses secure phone and email services.
I work from my private counselling room located in a quiet part of North Bristol; I see clients from North Bristol and surrounding areas, including Bishopston, Henleaze, Westbury-on-Trym, Clifton, Redland, Stoke Gifford and Downend. I will provide location details when we arrange our counselling sessions.
I have my own therapy room in North Bristol which is a quiet, private space. Counselling sessions last for 50 minutes and cost £50 per session for both adults and young people. I offer both short-term and long-term counselling; we will decide together what is right for you and we will carry out regular reviews. I offer a free 30-minute consultation either in-person or on the telephone so that you can decide whether I am the right counsellor for you.
